Product Description / Story

According to legend cats and Halloween are connected through the idea of Cat Sìths (yes they follow the dark side, no it has nothing to do with a galaxy far far away) and the Samhain holiday.

In Celtic myth Cat Sìths are supposed to be fairy creatures that look like large black cats with a single white spot on their chests. Apparently, they haunt the Scottish Highlands and sometimes steal souls!

The Samhain on the other hand is a Gaelic festival that takes place between sunset on October 31 and sunset on November 1 and it marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter.

If you left a saucer of milk on your doorstep on the Samhain, a Cat Sìth would bless the house, if you did not leave milk…then your house would be cursed by the Cat Sith!

Over time the Samhain holiday melded with All Saints’ Day to create Halloween and by association the legend of the Cat Sith was also adopted into the holiday of Halloween.

Now, as far as our cat is concerned his name is Lucy Fur (pun intended) and he likes to sit on pumpkins!
